Oxford United hero Jerome Sinclair clinches crucial home win with two goals

04/03/2019

Oxford United man-of-the-match Jerome Sinclair double earned a 2-1 win against Scunthorpe United which claimed the first back-to-back league wins of the season, following last week’s 1-0 victory away at Blackpool. The on-loan Watford striker’s second-half two goals were enough to get the U’s a win, keeping Karl Robinson’s side out of the Sky Bet League One relegation zone and joining a pack of eight teams separated by just two points.

Jerome Sinclair netted two very important goals in the space of 15 minutes in last Saturday’s game. After a man-of-the-match display, Jerome added: “Those two balls in were on a plate for me - that’s the stuff you can dream about as a striker”. After laying question marks over Jerome Sinclair and whether he was able or not to score those types of goals, his exceptional performance boosted a world of confidence going into the next few games. Sinclair said: “It´s the first time I’ve got two goals in a game, so I am over the moon. It was a very tough game. They made it difficult for us in the first half but we managed to battle on through it and got the result in the end. I’m buzzing I was able to do that and help the lads get the three points”.

After the game, Oxford United boss admitted there was a desire to keep the former Liverpool trainee beyond his initial loan deal, which expires in May. Jerome already demonstrated what he is able to do on the pitch and hoped his match-winning brace of headers for Oxford United proved he had the ability to have a successful career. Head Coach Karl Robinson regarding the club’s recent acquisition, Jerome Sinclair, said: “I’d love to make it a permanent”. Next match kicks off Saturday 9th of March at 15:00pm against Gillingham in another League One away battle.
